Our Charters
Inshore:
Kawhia is renowned as one of the top destinations to target Snapper;
and Dove and
Clansman are both top performers in this fishery.
A typical charter leaves the Kawhia wharf at 7am & returns around 5pm. We offer many options for your enjoyment and are happy to accommodate your requests.
You can fish & relax all year round while enjoying plentiful catches of Snapper, Gurnard, and Kahawai and not to forget the hard fighting Kingfish at Gannet Island.
Whilst fishing is good year round, October to January stand out as the best time to catch large school Snapper. These Snapper arrive at the 50 metre mark to spawn, which can provide dozens of Snapper over 10 pounds every day.
From March to June large
schools of pan size Snapper arrive at the south west reef situated some 12 miles
west of Kawhia. At a depth of 65 metres this reef can provide some of the fastest
fishing seen, with snapper so plentiful you can have your limit within an hour of
fishing.
Mokau Trench:
An extended charter aboard the Clansman to the Mokau Trench will have you
buzzing with excitement, situated some 45 miles west of Kawhia entering fishing
grounds with an abundance of fish life from Snapper, King Tarakihi to Bluenose,
Hapuka & Bass. Through the summer months this area is alive with Marlin, Mahi-Mahi & Tuna.
Fishing starts as soon as we cross the Kawhia bar, trolling too and from the Trench usually resulting in some great action.
Aboard an overnight trip you are more than welcome to fish through the night (weather permitting), and night fishing has resulted in some spectacular catches.
Fishing depths range from 140 metres to over 300 metres with an average fishing depth of around 160m.
